Introduction:
One of Atticus Finch’s main concerns in To Kill a Mockingbird is that his children try to empathize with others by walking around in "other people’s skin" for a while. In other words, Atticus wants his children to think about how changing their point of view changes their understanding and their actions. This webquest will encourage English/LA students to think about the story of To Kill a Mockingbird from the perspectives of some of the minor characters in the novel.
Task:
The final result of this exploration will be a book your group will create. The book will contain eight chapters:
- An introduction about Maycomb, Alabama (the fictional setting for the novel),
- One chapter told by each of the following characters: Mrs. Dubose; Boo Radley; Tom Robinson; Walter Cunningham; Aunt Alexandra; and Calpurnia,
- And a conclusion chapter that imagines what happens to all of the six characters plus Scout, Jem and Atticus 20 years after the original story ends.
- Finally, each group must design a cover and bind the book.
So, form a group of three, and start your mission.
